The and fashion illustrations by Laura Laine are beautiful, amazingly detailed and especially not go unnoticed, are powerful and capture the attention. Laura Laine is an extremely talented freelance illustrator who works for some of the most famous brands in the world of fashion including: Sephora, Zara, H&I, but several major magazines such as The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Guardian and Vogue. Compared to other fashion artists that I love Laine does not use ink or watercolor for her work but pencil.

The style is completely different compared to artists that you can find on this blog, the use of pencil makes the illustration particularly detailed in all details from head to toe, through the folds of the clothes. Starting from long and flowing hair, that move like windswept fabric, the postures of the models are deformed sometimes even overly twisted as in continuous movement. The female figures are almost dark, gothic style, belonging to the world of mystery, always eyes rimmed with black and ethereal expressions from doll. The textures are very detailed and also a means to everyone (pencil) manages to recreate light and shadows that make recognizable the composite material, including the fur or silk.

It is very interesting to read the interview with Finnish Illustrator on Swide, where recounts her experience and reveals the names of the illustrators that have inspired: Edward Gorey (American writer and Illustrator) and Harry Clarke (Irish Illustrator and stained glass artist). In both cases, the artists that inspires make extensive use of black and white with marked notes although with different media.

I recommend reading this interesting article / interview / comparison between Laine and the artist Jenni Hiltunen, she also Finnish and base in Helsinki, on the site The lab magazine. Visit this site to Laura Laine to see all her amazing works.
