Lots of fun and a lot of testing contamination in first day of visit to FuoriSalone Milan design week. Walking through the streets of the District of Brera you pass by nonchalantly technology to ecology. How is it possible?

It is the Milan Design Week that allows to range and observe critically our society. If you can not move from Milan or you have no time to see the events of the Fuorisalone then I'll take you and I'll show you some interesting project. Ready to go?

First of all, why go to Brera?

Brera Design District this year is now in its sixth edition. The scheduled events are many and it is impossible to lose them, considers that the previous year increased 140 thousand people in the streets of Brera so it's worth walking the streets, with map in hand, and stop to visit the showrooms.

Let's start Tuesday 14 in the afternoon at about two a few minutes. Milan is messy, crowded and sunny and the soundtrack is the honking of cars. Don't worry for traffic, we are on a Vespa. Parked and we start immediately with technology.

ECAL. University of Art and Design Lausanne

We begin in Via dell’Orso with Swiss students who have a number of interactive installations that have as main theme the selfie and our relationship, almost obsessive, with the camera and of course the natural reflection on social.

Two projects that I have more curious: the first conceived by Jules Moskovtchenko, Angélique Stehli and Sunil Vallu is Unshape a mirror/scanner that invites experimentation. Positioned in front of the mirror and plays with the horizontal bar that scans in real time (line by line) your body.

The second installation is by Clément Lambelet and Terkel Skou Steffensen. Do you know approximately how many selfie are taken in one week? I tell you, it's estimated almost 17 millions of self-portraits throughout the world.

When you're on Instagram you watching them all? This is the reflection of the designers who have created Selfeed, a machine that prints in real time all selfie that are posted on social on a never-ending roll of paper. But a great surprise the photos disappear shortly after printing to a chemical reaction between the ink and paper.

Both are a good reflection on the relationship we have with social networks.

Let's move on to the design Made in China with “Rong” that is organized by Hangzhou Yuhang RONG Contemporary Art and Design Center. The experiment involves 17 designers from various fields of interest from product design to graphic design. The objective is experimentation on 5 traditional Chinese materials and 2015 is the year dedicated to mud (mud).

The soil, as material, in Chinese tradition is exploited in various ways such as ceramics, bricks, tiles, sand, clay, stone and mineral pigments. The 17 designers who have participated have experimented with these materials trying to retrieve the tradition by applying it to modern design. The result for me is fantastic and the philosophy of recovery of traditional and modern reinterpretation fascinates me always.

Here are some interesting projects.

Ortofabbrica Concept Lab

This is the next step, We move to Palazzo Cusani in Via Brera (not far from the Academy) and we dive in a quiet courtyard. Literally in a oasis of peace and greenery.

Here the projects dedicated to green design are the stars and we immediately welcomed by plant walls that cool the environment and immediately put in a good mood. Here it is easy to find armchairs and plant tables, chairs ornamental realized with canes untreated and also wonderful walls covered with plants of all types.

The interesting project is the Plant Pocket, namely a wall composed of modules for the containment of plants. Is created with the kenaf, an ancient African origin plant that works wonders, It absorbs more carbon dioxide and releases a significant amount of oxygen and purifies smog. Is in the form of felt combined with other forms of plant and ensures wear resistance and also sound-absorbing properties.

We must do some reflection on felt and its extraordinary properties!
